Google shares dropped dramatically today after it was discovered that one lucky business owner managed to get one of her adverts shown for less than $1. The business owner, Rachel Evans, told us that she was as surprised as anyone:
"For years now I've been using Google's AdWords advertising programme, and prices have been going so ridiculously high over the past few years I thought we'd never be able to get an ad placed for much less than $300-500. So for us to have someone click one of our ads and then not to have to re-mortgage the entire business is a very welcome thing, even if it is an oversight."
Google have yet to formally respond to the incident, though it is claimed by one tech-insider that the price of the advert was almost certain a bug in the software.
"Yeah," said the insider, who would only speak to us on Matt condition of Anonymity Cutts. "We'd never allow our system to cost one of our advertisers less than a small fortune. To suggest this isn't a bug is somewhat ridiculous. Market forces mean that we can pretty much charge whatever we like - and so we do. I'm sure Ms Evans will have a wonderful surprise once her monthly invoice comes through."
