An anonymous internet image, has this week been making the rounds with a dramatic number of likes and shares. The meme, labelled simply as "lol", makes the following set of loosely similar claims:
"You miss 100% of the chances you don't take; the first step on the path to success is failure; if you don't try, you can never succeed."
The image has so far generated over one billion likes and several trillion shares on Facebook. Several other large internet companies, including Yahoo, Google and Bing, have expressed interest in acquiring rights to the meme's original and not at all trite content. Phil Brown, executive director for Bing UK told us:
"It's important for a brand such as Bing to establish itself with the common man. Phrases like this are what the internet is really about, and I'm really glad that people get the chance to discover that such wisdom exists out there."
Facebook's own servers have so far struggled with the demand for the image, with some suggesting that founder, Mark Zuckerberg, has been forced to sell several of his smaller companies just to pay for bandwidth costs. The image appears below, though no doubt you've seen it on every form of social media you feel compelled to belong to:
