British football team Arsenal have this weekend won their first piece of silverware in almost 17 years*, during a long and interesting 90 minutes at a fairground stall. The stall, a hook-a-duck in Wembley, contained any number of potential prizes, from plastic guns to bratz-a-like dolls, but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger decided to opt for the large plastic shiny trophy instead.
*Actual time 9 years
"It was a difficult decision," said long-time Frenchman Wenger. "But in the end we decided that the trophy was worth going for, and though the man behind the counter was not willing to give it to us, we paid the extra pound for another go and we won."
The trophy, standing around 18", was quickly adorned with a few streamers and paraded around the funfair. Arsenal players and fans alike immediately understood the importance of finally winning such a trophy, after so many years of heartache and close-calls.
"This means the world to us. I once accidentally touched a boob and lived off that memory for several years. This is no different," said one Gunners fan.
The win has helped in prompting speculation that everyone in Arsenal's long and interesting history is given a contract, or contract extension. Wenger himself, who has overseen the continual growth, rebirth and capitulation of various Arsenal teams, is likely obtain a 3 year contract before this year's Brazilian World Cup. He is said to be "excited" by such plans.
In the mean time, other news has been released that Ivan Gazidis, purseholder at Arsenal, has stated that a war chest of £100 million will be available for Wenger and his team - which explains the #yeahright hashtag that's currently trending on Twitter.
