In a move many observers thought was long time coming, Invicta FC World Featherweight Champion Cristiane Justino has admitted that she is transgender. Speaking to MMA Magazine Justino had this to say:
"I have to come clean. I am transgender. How do you think that I have such a heavy voice and thick neck and I'm so strong? How do you think that I was able to beat up Gina Carano so badly and force her into acting in B movies? Frankly speaking I don't blame Ronda one bit for avoiding having to fight me. Apparently she knew something Gina and those other naive girls didn't."
Asked if she thought that she had an unfair advantage in the Octagon, the Brazilian responded:
"Do you think that Caster Semenya has an unfair advantage when she runs in the 800M against women? Besides, in case you don't know, Caster lost to a real woman in the 2011 Worlds and in the 2012 Olympics. So why am I being picked on?"
Justino further went on to explain that she did in fact lose to a real woman in a Muay Thai bout back in 2014- Dutchwoman Jorina Baars, so she doesn't have an unfair advantage when she fights. She did announce when her next fight will be though.
"I am proud to let you know that I do have another bout coming up soon which I am training very hard for. I will be fighting fellow transgender fighter Fallon Fox at the MGM in Las Vegas on September 3rd."
The Brazilian who was once dubbed "the baddest woman on the planet" concluded by saying that her upcoming bout is a "victory" for the transgender community and sport as a whole.
