Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto is blaming U.S. President Donald Trump for the devastating earthquake which hit the country yesterday and which left 217 dead. The 7.1 magnitude quake which struck southern Mexico is said to be the most powerful to strike the country since 1985.

In an address to the nation last night, President Nieto had this to say:

"My dear compatriots, it is with a heavy heart that I address you as the President of this beloved nation of ours. What we the Mexican people experienced today will be remembered for the rest of our lives. It was devastation, destruction and carnage that not many people will ever experience in their lifetime and my heart and prayers go out to you my beloved compatriots who have all suffered from this catastrophe."

He continued:

"We Mexicans are a resilient people and we will emerge from the ashes of this tragedy as a stronger and more united country rising like the proverbial Phoenix. I can guarantee you that the Mexican Government is working assiduously night and day to assist those people who are most affected by this disaster."

President Nieto went on:

"But it must be noted though that ever since Donald Trump - el Diablo del Norte, cast aspersions upon our people and referred to us as rapists, murderers and drug dealers, our country has been negatively affected. The murder rate in our country has now soared. In June we saw our deadliest month this year with a whopping 2,234 murders. This is unprecedented in our country's history. And the murders have since continued unabated. So it is therefore no coincidence that this natural disaster must also be attributed to Donald Trump. I have to let you know that the Mexican Government will not be accepting any financial aid from el Diablo because we have enough friends in Latin America who can assist us. This is not an American problem. But it must be noted that gringos like Trump are a big problem for us."

He concluded:

"I sincerely pray that our Patron Saint Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe grants us the courage and strength to go on and rebuild our country and restore it to its former greatness and may her wrath, fury and punishment be upon el Diablo Trump. Buenas noches mi pueblo. Viva Mexico!"

I'm here all week. You know when you turn on the radio and there are song lyrics in your head... that's like this moment. :)
