Jerry Springer Dies at 79 - Former Talk Show Host Unable to Resist the Final 'jerry! Jerry!' Chant

Report story

The world is mourning the loss of Jerry Springer, the former talk show host who famously hosted a show full of guests trying to prove their paternity, confessing to affairs, and brawling with each other. While fans of the show are expressing their sadness, plenty of others are speaking out about their less-than-flattering opinions of the man himself.

"I don't understand how he got famous by basically showing people's dirty laundry on TV," said one woman, who asked to remain anonymous. "I mean, who cares if some woman cheated on her husband with his best friend? It's not like it's a big surprise that people do that." Other critics are pointing out that Springer's show was exploitative, and that he didn't seem to care very much about the people who came on it.

Despite the criticism, there are plenty of fans who are mourning Springer's death. "To us, he was like the king of trash TV," said one longtime viewer. "We'd all get together and watch his show and laugh at how ridiculous it was. He knew exactly what he was doing."

Springer's family released a statement thanking fans for their support, but not everyone is convinced that the show's star is truly gone. Some are making jokes about how Springer will rise again, or how the final 'Jerry! Jerry!' chant might have been enough to resurrect him from the dead. Others are pointing out that the talk show host was such a force of nature that even death might not be enough to stop him.

"He's up there in heaven, probably planning his next show," said one Twitter user. "Or maybe down in hell, hosting some kind of demon talk show. Either way, he's probably still stirring up drama somewhere."
