Popular British 80's Pop Singer Rick Astley who had hits such as Never gonna give you up, Together Forever and She wants to dance with me, has admitted in an interview that he didn't actually sing those songs and that he was actually lip-syncing. Speaking to Music Magazine, Mr. Astley had this to say:
" I have to let you know that I have a small confession to make. Those songs that you saw me performing on TV and those videos you saw on America's Top Ten, I was not the actual singer. Think about it, do you really think that a skinny little white guy like me can have such a powerful voice? The guy who was the actual singer was my good friend Leroy Jones. And yes, he is black."
Asked further if he felt like a fraud because he was able to deceive people for so long, Mr. Astley responded:
" You know when you are young and naive as I was, I really didn't consider it at the time. Do you think that Milli Vanilli had a similar feeling? At least I had the balls to come clean. They were actually caught. I just needed a way to make some quick money and I took advantage of it. And in case you are wondering, I did give Leroy some of my money. I basically owe my success and fame to him."
Many British Facebook users have expressed shock over the startling revelation from Mr. Astley. One user going by the name John Smith had this to say:
" It's such a shame that one of our beloved singers had to stoop so low in order to gain fame and fortune. And to think that I actually had the audacity to buy his albums. I guess that I 'll have a lot of work to do this weekend when I start burning them. It leaves me to wonder now who else is guilty of doing something like this."
Another Facebook user named Peter Adams had this response:
" To be honest Lisa Stansfield does kinda sound like a black woman. Is she a fraud too? Let's wait and see if she has the courage to come clean."
