The MMA world is still reeling in shock over Amanda Nunes' total demolition of the now former Featherweight Champion Cris Cyborg at UFC 232 on Saturday night. Not much people gave Nunes, who is also the reigning Bantamweight Champion, much of a chance against a woman who was once the most feared female fighter in the UFC and dubbed the "Baddest Woman on the Planet". But Nunes, not wanting to be intimidated by her Brazilian compatriot, decided to trade punches with Cyborg in an all out brawl from the time the opening buzzer sounded and rocked and eventually dropped Cyborg to the floor with a vicious combination of punches following a quick exchange between the two; to leave her and the crowd at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, stunned with only fifty-one seconds gone on the clock and in the process capture the Women's Featherweight title to go along with her Bantamweight title.
It was Cyborg's first defeat in thirteen years and the worst loss of her entire career and probably the biggest upset in women's UFC history. In the process Nunes cemented her status as possibly the greatest women's fighter to set foot in the Octagon by becoming the first simultaneous female two division Champion. Speaking to the media today Nunes had this to say following her stunning win over a woman many thought was invincible.
"Well, this was exactly how I thought it was going to go down. I know that she punches hard but unlike me she tends to be quite reckless with her punches. I am a straighter puncher. Apparently she thought that she was going to intimidate me and just bulldoze her way through me the way she did Yana Kunitskaya. But Cris should know that I am a higher quality fighter than that and I knew this was how it was going to go down. I am not intimidated by anyone. The knockout didn't surprise me one bit. I am now a two division Champion and the first woman to achieve that feat. I must be included in the UFC Hall of Fame."
"Minutes before the fight my girlfriend Nina gave me a big hug and a passionate kiss on my lips and told me that I shouldn't fear Cris and that I was going to shock the world. She told me that not only should I do this for myself and for her but for all the lesbians out there. I am representing them. I got emotional and was on the brink in tears but eventually I composed myself and concentrated on the job at hand. That inspirational talk from Nina really inspired me and I promised her that I was going to knock Cris out. And that's exactly what happened."
"This victory is for all lesbians out there. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something because of your sexual orientation. If I can do it you can do it."
