Olympic Summary

The Olympic Games are now over but the memories of Rio 2016 will last with sports fans forever or at least until Tokyo 2020. The exploits of the legendary Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt in swimming and track and field respectively will never be forgotten and those who were privileged to witness these two Olympic Greats compete and make history in the process can consider themselves blessed. On the other hand there were some athletes who were touted to do well in their respective individual sports or with their respective teams but failed to live up to expectations.

This is how they summed up their Rio 2016 experiences:

Dafne Schippers, Dutch Sprinter who finished 5th in the Women's 100M and only came in second in the 200M despite being the pre-race favorite and whose error cost the Dutch women a place in the 4X100M relay final: "I am very disappointed with my performance in Rio. Or rather my under-performance. I had great expectations of leaving Rio with at least three medals with one of them being a gold from the 200M event. I knew the 100M was always going to be an uphill task for me, but finishing second in the 200M felt like a dagger through my heart. I thought I had done enough to reel in Elaine at the end but it wasn't to be. I guess we all saw the real Jamaican in her in that final and for that she has my utmost respect. That's why I showed great humility by bending over to embrace her on the ground after she won so no one can say that I am a sore loser or a racist after I took off my shoes and slammed them on the track in frustration after finishing second in the race. But at least the good thing about my not winning gold is that people will stop assuming now that I am a drug cheat like they did after I won the 200M World Title in Beijing last year just because I am white and have acne on my face."

Fabiana Murer, Brazilian Pole Vaulter who failed to make it to the final of the Women's Pole Vault competition after no-heighting in the qualifying round: "I was hoping to win this elusive Olympic title in front my adoring home fans to go along with the World Indoor and Outdoor titles I won in 2010 and 2011 respectively so that I can complete my collection of major championship medals. My idol is the great Russian world record holder Yelena Isinbayeva who I once trained with and who I defeated in back to back Worlds in 2010 and 2011. I was trying to emulate her performance in front of her home fans at the Moscow World Championships in 2013. That would have been my crowning glory especially after I just gave up in the qualifying round in London 2012 complaining about the wind. I wanted to erase bad memories. Unfortunately I was not up to the task and after no-heighting - effectively ending my Olympic career, it dawned upon me that I can NEVER be like Yelena. In fact, no one can. Well at least not in this century anyway. Its a pity that she had to miss the Olympics through no fault of her own and now I heard that she's officially retired. The only people who will be elated by this are gays."

Hope Solo, U.S. goalkeeper whose team was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Women's football tournament by Sweden in a penalty shootout and failed to make the podium for the first time in Olympic history: "I guess the gods punished me for assuming that I would contract the Zika Virus in Brazil after I posted that ridiculous photo of myself on Twitter wearing the mosquito hat and showing the mosquito repellent. But I think the punishment was really for beating up my sister and nephew after a drunken stupor two years ago."

There's something in here that intrigues me... and I think its how on earth anyone can read it without dying from boredom. I didnt read this because it neither angered nor pleased me. I also make obvious comments in real life. :)
