Portugal and Real Madrid Star Striker Cristiano Ronaldo, getting over the disappointment of the not-so-perfect bust which was created by Emanuel Santos that bore no resemblance to him, has come out in defense of the sculptor and admitted that his face is too perfect to be immortalized in a bust or even a statue.
Speaking to uefa.com at the Madeira Airport in his native Portugal which was named in his honour and which houses the controversial bust, the 2016 FIFA World Player of the Year said:
“I commend Mr. Santos on his efforts to recreate my face in this piece of artwork despite it not looking like me and it more resembling former Sunderland Striker Niall Quinn. It is quite obvious that my face and ultimately my body are too perfect to immortalize in a bust or a statue”
Ronaldo then took a jab at his Barcelona rival Lionel Messi as he continued:
“If it were Messi, I am sure that Mr. Santos would have gotten it right. But what does that tell you about me? It should tell you that I am one of a kind. I am the epitome of perfection in both talent and looks. In fact, I think not even the Great Michelangelo himself would have been able to perfectly immortalize my face in a bust.”
Ronaldo then hit out at the press as he concluded:
“Sometimes I think even photographers get my face wrong.”
