The Government of Afghanistan has announced that in 2017 the new Buzkashi League will commence. Buzkashi - a very rugged and violent sport in which the competitors who are mounted on horses try to place the carcass of a goat in a goal, had been outlawed under the Taliban regime, but the U.S. invasion in 2001 and the subsequent change of Government has seen a resurgence in the centuries old pastime. A recent survey carried out by Afghanipoll has indicated that Buzkashi ranked number two in the country among the five most popular activities. Second only to suicide bombings. Surprisingly, beheadings only came in third and stoning a woman to death came in fourth. Rounding up the top five was kidnapping a Westerner.
Speaking to the Kabul Press, President of the Afghan Buzkashi League, Abdullah Nuristani had this to say:
"After much consideration we decided that it was about time that we give the League a new look."
He then revealed the new logo for the League which features the black silhouette of a turban-clad man mounted on a horse while holding aloft a dead goat. At the bottom of the image is the acronym ABL. Mr. Nuristani said that ten teams will be featured in the coming season. They are: The Kabul Killers, The Herat Haters, The Beheading Brigade, The Suicide Bomber Squad, The Marauding Mujahideen, The Kalashikov Klan, The RPG Renegades, The Anti-Western Warlords, The Tyrannical Terrorists and The Seventh Century Soldiers.
Mr. Nuristani further went on to explain that the teams will play each other twice in home and away fixtures with three points being awarded for each win. At the end of this the top two teams with the most points will battle each other for the Championship with the winner being awarded the only prize of a year supply of explosives.
