Fresh off the recent success of her latest film - Wonder Woman, Director Patty Jenkins is to receive her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Wonder Woman, which became the highest grossing live-action film directed by a woman and which is the forty-five-year old's second most notable work following 2003's Monster which won Charlize Theron a Best Actress Oscar, was the top movie in the country for three weeks before being replaced by Cars 3.
Speaking to E! following the news, an emotional Jenkins had this to say about her recent accomplishments:
"Gosh, I really don't know what to say, I am struggling for words at the moment."
As she wiped the tears from her eyes.
She went on:
"Never in my wildest dreams would I ever have imagined that my film would have been as successful as it has been. When I first took on the project I initially wanted the film to appeal to and inspire young girls because we see so few female super heroes in films as compared to males. But I never really anticipated the type of success that the movie would have enjoyed. But to receive my own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is quite overwhelming."
Jenkins continued:
"I don't know, but there are so many other great female Directors who could have gotten this type recognition before me. Wasn't Kathryn Bigelow the first female Director to win an Oscar when she did The Hurt Locker? So why doesn't she have her own star yet?"
She concluded:
"Aw well, I guess I can't worry too much about other women in the field of directing who haven't gotten their own star as yet. I am sure that one day Kate will get a star to call her own. But until that time I just have to say that I'll be outshining her."
